Hey! Welcome to my blog.

It is confirmed that Apple is hosting the WWDC event in June. The event is back in its online form and is free to watch on Apple's website. WWDC is the short form for World Wide Developers Conference. In this event, Apple tends to release new software and Macs. In today's blog, I will be going over all the confirmed products and software that are going to be released in WWDC.

Firstly, I will be going over all the software that will likely be released during the event:

1. iOS 15

iOS 15 is going to be the successor to iOS 14. Rumours and leaks suggest that there will be a few changes. iOS 15 is going to drop support for the iPhone 6 series and the 1st generation iPhone SE. Following are the supported devices for iOS 15:

  • iPhone 12 Pro Max

  • iPhone 12 Pro

  • iPhone 12

  • iPhone 11

  • iPhone XR

  • iPhone XS

  • iPhone XS Max

  • iPhone X

  • iPhone 8

  • iPhone 8 Plus

  • iPhone 7

Some features of iOS 15 are as follows:

A. Revamped icons

iOS 15 beta includes revamped icons that will resemble the icons from macOS Big Sur.

B. More default apps

iOS 15 allows users to install 3rd party apps and make them the default ones.

C. Improvements to Siri

Siri, Apple's digital assistant will have some improvements in iOS 15. Some of these improvements will be voice options and new information categories.

D. Privacy

Privacy is very important for Apple. In iOS 14, Apple introduced AAT (App Tracking Transparency). Although companies see it as a financial burden, Apple is keen on improving security for its consumers. We might see further security advancements in iOS 15 such as blocking pop-ups and others.

E. Upgrades to Apple Podcasts

Apple Podcasts is yet to receive an update in iOS 15. We might see the introduction of lossless audio and better support for media types.

2. iPad OS 15

iPad OS is also receiving an update in 2021. iPad OS 15 might include widgets that can be placed across the screen and support for Final Cut Pro X, Logic Pro and other mac software exclusively for the 11" and 12.9 " iPad Pros. The following are the supported devices under iPad OS 15:

  • iPad (6th generation)

  • iPad (5th generation)

  • iPad Mini (5th generation)

  • iPad Air (3rd generation)

3. macOS 12

macOS will be receiving an update this year. This version of macOS is said to not include major feature upgrades but rather, small incremental updates. Following are the likely supported devices for macOS 12:

MacBook (2015 or later)

Mac mini (2014 or later)

MacBook Pro (2014 or later)

iMac (2014 or later)

MacBook Air (2014 or later)

iMac Pro (2017 or later)

Mac Pro (2014 or later)

4. watchOS 8

Apple's Watch OS 8 is set to release at WWDC 2021. Leaks suggest that this version of watch OS will include a control centre. We might see some improvements to the UI.

5. tvOS 15

tvOS might be receiving an update this year. not much has been leaked about tvOS but we might expect to see new changes to the UI and dropping support for older Apple TV boxes.

Now, I will be going over the hardware that I think will be released at WWDC:

1. MacBook Pro 14"/ 16"

Rumours have been suggesting that a new MacBook Pro lineup is going to be released at WWDC. A new 14" model is said to be released as well. These MacBook Pros will come with M1X processors. Apple might also increase the ram limit to 32 or 64 gigabytes as the current M1 has a cap of 16 gigabytes. Leaks and stolen schematics of the product tell us that it is going to be a redesign. This redesign is going to bring back the HDMI, MagSafe and SD card slot. The schematics also show that the Touch Bar is going to be removed. There is a small chance that the displays on these new MacBook Pros will be Mini-LED.

2. 30/32" iMac

There is a small chance that we will see a new 30/32" iMac at WWDC. As Apple did with the 24" iMac, We might see the new iMac being shipped a month after the announcement.

3. Redesigned Mac Mini

Rumours have been circulating that we might see a redesigned Mac Mini at WWDC. Leaked images suggest that it will the thinner, lighter and will feature the same M1X processor as the MacBook Pro. Apple might increase the ram limit to 32 gigabytes.
